About Us
A message from the chef
Hi everyone!
My name is Amanda or better known as “Chef GordaBea.” I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. I am of Mexican American decent with roots tied back to Jalisco, Mexico. As a young girl, I was blessed with the opportunity to live both lifestyles here in the US and Mexico. My parents would send me to Mexico during the summer and fall to spend time with family and to learn the language. It was then, when I was introduced to the different styles of culture, food, and happiness. For as long as I can remember, I have been intrigued with food, (hence the nickname Gorda).
During my young adulthood, I had to redirect my focus to caring for my beautiful children. This however pulled me away from my passion for cooking. Fast forward to 2020, with the push from family & friends I decided to revert back to what I always knew I wanted to do, cook! I decided to take a leap of faith and fully dedicated my time to cooking and starting a catering business.
Why Mexican cuisine might you ask? Well, as a little girl the most memorable dish that touched my soul was frijoles (refried beans) and let’s not forget the homemade tortillas. It was something so simple yet so satisfying. I knew if I could recreate this and take myself back to that moment it would be something magical! Mexican food means more to me than just frijoles, it means the culture I’m rooted back to, recipes I can reinvent and the happiness it can bring to people by knowing I touched their soul with food made with love. I dedicate this chapter of my life to the love of food, culture & happiness!
With love,
Chef GordaBea
